So I saw the latest info on the the new Continental... and it looks like it will just be an updated MKS. And that tells me that Lincoln will continue its tradition of the past 20 years of being “almost competitive” and “almost good enough”.

Lincoln needs a car that grabs people’s attention.

They need a car that is a radical improvement... a leap in performance and style.

It needs to be a real flagship.

And I predict that the new Continental ain’t it.

Though I’m sure airport taxi/limo market will love it.

And that’s the problem...

I’m proud of Lincoln actually. They are making a beautiful car that is about luxury, not track times. I miss true luxury cars.

Though I know people on here will disagree with me...

If Lincoln wants to be taken seriously, they to have at least one standalone model. Right now every car they make is just a fancy version of a Ford model. It’s okay to have a bit of that, but at the very least you need a full-sized sedan and a coupe/performance car that are bespoke.

Focusing on just luxury and not performance would be fine, provided you had the competition beat -or at least matched- when it came to luxury.

They take people to the airport.

If you look at very old school Lincoln, they had a Lincoln-Zephyr lineup that was a sub-brand of Lincoln that was entry level luxury.. that’s what Lincoln is in entirety now, and it sucks.

If they want to succeed, I think they should keep some of the current models, put them in a sub-brand of sorts and then create something that is actually new and actually worthwhile to fit in the Lincoln brand. Luxury-added Fords is what Mercury was supposed to be in it’s later years, and what Lincoln is now is not enough of a distinction from that. I’d love to see them make a legitimate flagship, akin to the El Miraj, in addition to a performance model and a true, proper limo car akin to the old Town Car.

I’m also not sure how the idea of a Mustang platform based luxury car hasn’t made it far enough to hear rumors, considering luxury performance is a pretty big gap in Ford’s brand-overreaching lineup.

Agreed. Lincolns right now are what Mercurys should be.

It sounds like it’s going to be in the same vein as a slightly fancier Focus. Whoo hoo.

If the MKZ is anything to go by, it’ll be filled with glitter plastic and seats that make park benches feel soft, and the only luxury will be the mood lighting and ill-conceived transmission control scheme.

I wanted fuzzy blue seats and a sparkly chrome interior as shown on the concept. And the AWD won’t cut it, since it will be FWD-biased and totally inept at feeling meaty when I want the barge to move down the highway.
